What are AI video transitions?

A transition is the visual or editorial technique used to move from one shot to the next. In AI video, the model interprets the transition instruction as a continuity or motion cue — it needs to understand what the outgoing shot looks like, what the incoming shot looks like, and what visual logic connects them. A well-written transition prompt prevents abrupt, random cuts and gives the model enough context to generate a smooth or deliberately jarring edit.

Common transition mistakes

  • Not describing Shot A or Shot B — the model has no context for what it is connecting.
  • Using match cut without specifying what the match is — shape, gesture, eyeline, or action.

Can AI video models actually execute transitions?+
It depends on the model and clip length. Seedance and Kling handle intra-clip transitions well. Cross-shot transitions work best when you render two clips separately and use a video editor — but specifying the transition logic in the prompt still conditions the start and end frames of each clip.
Which transition works best for Seedance 9:16 content?+
Whip pan and light wipe perform best in Seedance for vertical content — they're motion-driven and read clearly at mobile scale. Match cuts work well too when the matched element is large and central in frame.
Do I need to specify the transition in both Shot A and Shot B prompts?+
